The most important and competing car magazines in China made the historical decision to create the first truly independent car awards in China, which were inaugurated in November 2013 to recognize and reward automotive excellence in China. The China Car Awards intend to complement, not compete with those existing international, national and regional COTY awards, which are inherently different in scope. Today, China Car of the Year (CCOTY) is a program initiated by twenty-two (22!) automotive editors-in-chief who write for the twenty-two (22!) most favoured car magazines in China. By its nature, China Car of the Year only includes vehicles that are available in China.
The awards are administered by the global leader in strategic communication research and consultancy PRIME Research, under the guidance of a non-profit association, a steering committee of distinguished automotive editors-in-chief from China – the C-Club. In that way, they draw on the experience and expertise already developed by various other award programs throughout the world.
